Percentage of the housing units projected to be constructed or preserved as a result of investments made by the organization during the reporting period that are considered affordable housing.
Organizations should footnote the assumptions used in defining affordable housing. See usage guidance for further information.
This metric is intended to capture the percentage of housing units created or preserved as a result of an organization's investments that are affordable housing, in both single- and multi-family buildings.
Affordable housing has associated financial costs for occupants at a level that does not threaten or compromise their enjoyment of other human rights and basic needs and that represents a reasonable proportion of an individual's overall income.
Organizations should footnote their assumptions in defining affordable housing. In the United States, the Department of Housing and Urban Development defines affordable housing (http://portal.hud.gov/hudportal/HUD?src=/program_offices/comm_planning/affordable housing/) as that for which the occupant or occupants pays or pay no more than 30% of their income for gross housing costs, including utilities.
